i connect it in to type c port on my windows laptop

You can still have the drive physically detected while Windows can’t read its partition. Since Disk Management shows the entire drive as Unallocated, don’t initialize it, format it, or create a new volume because that can overwrite the partition information and make recovery harder. You can first try a different USB cable and another PC to rule out the enclosure or connection, but if it still shows unallocated, the safer next step is to recover the partition or copy the files before attempting repairs. For a drive that’s 10+ years old, I’d treat this as a possible failing drive and avoid running CHKDSK until the data is backed up or recovered. If the files are important, you can use recovery software such as Stellar Data Recovery to scan the physical drive for the lost partition and files, ideally saving recovered files to a different drive.
