My Passport Studio not working with WD TV Live

My Passport Studio 500gb Portable hard drive ( http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=569) is not recognised by the WD TV Live media player.  The hard drive is fomatted to Ntfs and is picked up by both my laptop and desktop pc computers. I have tried a friends much older WD portable drive ( http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=WD2500XMS&cpc=SUGG) and it works perfectly well with the WD TV Live.

Any help please.

This does not help but it should work as it is on the approved list for the WDTV LIve

WD My Passport Studio Edition WDMSxxxxx, WDMTxxxxx

Actually, that’s referring to the older Passport Studio.  There’s a chance that the WD TV Live may not yet be updated for the Studio, since the Passport Studio you probably have is new.  If the Passport Studio has an LED lable then it’s the new one.  The other thing you can try is to make sure that you don’t have the drive password protected.  And/or make sure it works on other pcs.

Thanks for the answer, I have a similar problem ( http://community.wdc.com/t5/General-Discussions/WD-TV-LIVE-Problem-with-External-USB-Drives/td-p/15885) but not with a WD disk.

So this mean that not all USB drives will work? that something can prevent for working even when they are perfectly detected and used in different systems?

I know that WD can not “certified”’ all external drives (as stated in the product page), but standars are there for a reason, and if a drive suportts the standards and is possible to connect it to different systems it should be straight forward its connection to the WD TV Live.

As I understand even some new WD external drives are not detected, does someone knows the reason for this happening?

Thanks

I don’t understand your reply. The poster gave us a link to his drive.

This drive is a Model: WDMT5000 My Passport Studio 500GB Portable Hard Drive.

The approved list for the WDTV quotes:

WD My Passport Studio Edition WDMSxxxxx, WDMTxxxxx

The only difference I can see is the possible extra number at the end.

The new Passport Studio with a label has a completely different number.
