My Passport freezing computer when try to access it

Hello,

I have my passport regular 1 TB external HDD.

It was working fine till I ejected it without ejecting it. And now when I plug it in the computer it gets detected but doesn’t show any details. and when I open the drive in Explorer, it freezes the computer.

I also tried WD data lifeguard diagnostics but it crashes on my surface pro 4 right after I run it.

I have so many important data an I cannot lose them. So I need help recovering them. Your help is much appreciated.

The symptoms you are describing relate to volume corruption. Try browsing online for a volume/file system repair application or a data recovery software. You may have to format your unit in order to use it again.

I was actually able to run data lifeguard diagnostics and it failed all the tests.

This would indicate a physical hard drive issue. The unit should be replaced.

Hi, try to use CHKDSK command to detect and solve the issue with your hard drive.
