My Passport Elite not seen in computer,Disk manager Not Initiallized,Unallocated

My WD was working fine ever since i purchased it but the following day later, the WD has problems

  1. The device had been recognised, but could not be seen in explorer.

  1. I  googled abit, and went to Disk management to Initialize it but failed because of ’ Write protection ’

I had tried to deactivate the write protect by following instructions given

http://www.troublefixers.com/remove-write-protection-on-usb-pen-drive-or-memory-card-or-ipod/

but had not been working. I had also went to device manager to check my drive’s properties.

If only i could disable the write protection, everything could be reformatted . :frowning:

How do i fix this?

Hey try this …this worked well for me…

go to control panel
open administrative tools
select and open computer management
Under the “Storage” option you will find “Removable storage”
Right click ‘removable storage’ and select properties
You will find a security tab…add yourself and give full read, write & modify permissions…
save and exit. and then copy paste or make changes to the removable storage and it will work…This worked for me and also on windows XP…

Thanks for answering.

Now when i went to computer management under ‘storage’ , i could not find ’ removable storage ‘’ . There was only ’ Disk management ‘’ . How do i solve this?

Try this. Turn off your computer. CHANGE USB ports and try it again…

I had tried this but to no avail. I tried 2 ports in front of my CPU, 4 ports at the back of the cpu .

The problem is that the device is installed and has been recognized, but could not been seen in the computer hardware.

My main focus is on how to disable the write protection ( I do not had any password keyed in and have no idea how this was protected ) through the Disk management , so that i can Initialize it . Run a test and got this

Test Option: QUICK TEST
Model Number: WD My Passport 070B
Unit Serial Number:
Firmware Number: 1032
Capacity: 2198.32 GB
SMART Status: Not Available
Test Result: FAIL

Test Option: EXTENDED TEST

Can you try this…

To disable write caching on the usb hdd in device manager.

You can choose in the disk properties for optimize for quick removal or optimize for performance. CHOOSE optimize for quick removal.

Backup the files and try reformatting it with NTFS with the disk manager of your operating system.

I really dont know what else to do here. Thoughts here?

Well , It was always on quick removal . But it still doesnt’ work .

Imma try and make a short video ,  that way maybe its easier >.<

This drive has failed and needs to be replaced.  Why are you trying to reformat it?

If I replace this during my warranty period, will it be free?
