My Passport Bad Connection

I have a My Passport 500 Gig external hard drive. It stopped working yesterday. It appears that the connection is bad because when I wiggle it in the right way I can get the light to turn on. Also the cable is lose in the plug. But even when I get the light on and I can feel the hard drive start up, it does not show up my computer (the one I was using before.) Any ideas how I could get the data off before I return it?

Same thing happened to me 2 days ago. Seems to be a lot of them going bad. Very strange

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this to see if there is anything they can do to help you. You can do so either by phone or email.

Same here.  I can’t view any of my pictures now.  I ran a diagnostic test and it said “Cable Test: Read diagnostics sector error”.  Does anyone knows what happen?

Normally, that means that you have a bad data cable.
