I’m considering getting a My Passport AV to go with my WD TV Live Plus. I just have one question about it. I know some things require formatting, so would it be necassary to format this before I transfered any files onto it?
Yes formatting will wipe everything out.

Yes, I’m aware of that, but it wasn’t my question. What I meant was is it necassary to format it beofre using it? For example would I be promted to format it in the future if I don’t format it when I get it and is there any advantages to formatiing it? What I’m basically saying is should I format it or leave it unformatted.
Isn’t anyone going to give me an answer? I’m really interested, but I’m not about to spend $90 on something without having my question answered first.
