I purchased 3 x My Passport 2TB.
After installing on a Windows 8 operating system it is recognized in file explorer.
When I configure Windows 8 “Storage Spaces” it will not recognize the drives for the creation of a storage pool.
Microsoft indicates that “Storage Spaces” can be used with any external hard drive that uses an SES driver.
I have confirmed that the My Passport 2TB uses an SES Driver.
Any success in using this drive in W8 “Storage Spaces” by any other users?
I reformatted all three My Passport 2TB and uninstalled all WD software because I occaisionally get a message that the drive is being used by another application and connot be used fopr W8 Storage Spaces.
I was not able to delete the Cd Drive Unlocker.exe and I think that it is still connecting to the drives thus keeping W8 Storage Spaces from using it.
Any ideas on how to uninstall it.
Note thatI will want to re-install everything I uninstalled if it does not eventually work.
Your ideas are helpful. Thanks.
The attached screen shots may help;
You can’t delete/uninstall the CD Drive Unlocker. It’s actually part of the Passport. You can’t use those for any type of storage. They’re locked partitions.
OK. I have deleted everything on the drives and disconnected everthing I can that connects to the drive and it is still not seen by W8 Storage Spaces for the creation of a storage pool.
sounds like a sweet set up if you get it going, I’m also having the same issues. I’m thinking of setting up a traditional RAID set up using a RAID controler on my motherboard, maybe you sould look into what your motherboard can do to set up a RAID.
