My Passport 2 TB USB 3.0/USB 2.0 Hard Drives (WDBY8L0020BBK) and TrueCrypt

Guys,

Is anyone using above drive and TrueCrypt (encrypt a non-system partition/drive)? This hard drive has some kind of hardware encryption built in already and it seems like I am not able to format it with TrueCrypt.

I will be calling Western Digital support today, because after using TrueCrypt on two of them, they are completely dead! Any help or ideas would be much appreciated!

If the system recognizes the drive it did work (on other brands) but with my WD nor the PC nor MAC saw the HD once it stop working.

IF you see it, back up. If not, join the club, too many with same problem here.

If this is the case, feel free to contribute to my post(s) on TrueCrypt forum as well:

Second level support did not help me, but I’ve find out myself there is a hidden partition at the end of the drive which acts as a virtual CD. This partition is unable to get rid of, because the information about it is somehow embedded in the firmware. When you use TrueCrypt, you screw it up and the whole drive is dead afterward. I will get a different hard drive from different vendor. *CLOSED*

or just get a drive that does not come with that software

You’re complaining about a software that’s the key selling point for some people

Before purchasing you can do some research and I’m sure you’ll find more than one drive that does not come with that software

Oh and manufactured by WD
