My Passport 1TB fails to initialize, I/O device error

1TB Passport has worked well without any errors for 6 months.  Suddenly it is no longer initializing.  Forcing it to initialize on Windows 7 disk manager using MBR and GBR results in ‘request could not be performed because of an I/O device error’.  Have used it on multiple PCs using both XP and 7.

I have put a password on it as well.

Can you please suggest a way out.

Try a different cable… If no go replace the drive

Changed cables, laptops and operating systems. didnt work
