chances are that the USB logic has failed so try removing the disk form the unit
I have several USB SATA cables which seem to be more durable and the allow any laptop disk to be connected to a PC
I have more USB-A but my last one is USB-C which is now the way of the future
thank you so much, so remove disk, reinstall, and get a better usb cable
USB SATA cables are low cost I found eBay to have lot of them for sale
