My Passport 0740 500GB no longer detected by computer

I bought a HD from from a shop sometime in April last year. After filling it to the brim in some three months, it stopped working (as in it no longer shows up on in windows explorer). I gave to IT professionals to recover the data, but no luck. The opened the casing to do it, which nulls the warranty.

At this point, I have given up on recovering the data. But if the HD itself is salvageable in any way, I will be truly gratefull.

Some of the older models were capable of get removed from enclosure and connect to the PC

if the drive is from the last two years, not much to do considering you have already taken the drive for data recovery

Can you please elaborate further? The only computer I have at home is a Dell Isnpiron laptop. Operating System is Windows 7 Ultimate.
