My new WD Caviar is not operating

Good morning.  I purchased the WD Caviar Blue yesterday for my EDSR 400H security monitor, but it does not seem to be working.  I followed the installation instructions but do not know how to format, etc. with the EDSR.  It does not seem to have a setting for this.  I believe it needs to run on FAT, and the file format for the stored images is Apple’s program.  I would appreciate any help.

What if you connect it to a computer just to format it that way and try again? o.o
