My HDTV wont reconize my WD elements play using HDMI cable,HELP

Hi, brought a new WD Elements play to use with my Panasonic TX-P42GT20E plasma tv, and my tv wont recognize my WD ,I plug It in but my tv wont  recognize it,i read that happens to a lot of people that use WD with HDMI 1.4 cable,but that’s the reason I brought it to be able to use it with HDMI,what can I do? How do I play with HDMI ?

Also I cant update the firmware because I cant connect it to the tv and see the menu…
