My WD My Cloud is currently at firmware version 04.05.00-327. Several times now I have received an email alert from my device telling me a new version of the firmware has been released and to please update my device. I try to be diligent about such things, but when I try to update the firmware through the UI things get wonky.
To update my device, I start with loading the My Cloud UI, http://wdmycloud/UI/. When I do so after receiving this email alert, I see a yellow exclamation point alert icon in the firmware field to indicate that my firmware is out of date. This agrees with the email alert, so far so good. I then click on the little arrow in the corner of the firmware field to retrieve the new firmware and update my device. After doing this, however, I get a pop up which tells me “Your firmware is up to date.” That’s odd. If I then poke around some more in the UI eventually the yellow alert icon is replaced with a blue check mark to indicate my firmware is up to date. Well that agrees with the pop up but not the original email alert. Now this check mark will remain until the next time I get an alert email to tell me my firmware is down level.
Looking at the product page I see that a new firmware version 04.05.00-334 was release on 3/12/19, so indeed my firmware is now 5 months out of date, but the device UI does not seem to want to pick it up. What gives? Is this a subtle hint that something is afoul with this firmware version and I really don’t want to pick it up, or is this a bug in the UI and I need to manually update to the latest version?
