My Cloud (OS5) not waking up on access

Hi,

my old My Cloud OS5 had been working perfectly for years, but for the last couple of weeks I’ve been having a strange issue.
The device suddenly becomes unreachable — both in the local network and remotely via the app. If I reboot the My Cloud or unplug/reconnect the LAN cable, it works again for a while (maybe a few hours). After that, it becomes unreachable again, or it seems like the device does not wake up from standby/sleep mode anymore.

Has anybody experienced the same issue or found a fix for it? Could this be related to a recent OS5 update?

Thanks!

@bkan

I have the single drive WDMYCLOUD OS5.
WDMyCloudImage

I haven’t had any problems with mine. I reboot it at least once a week. I also use it often to listen to music that I have saved on it.

I can open it on Windows 11, File Explorer by using this address \\WDMYCLOUD or for shares I use \\WDMYCLOUD\share name.

If you haven’t done so already, check the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > General > Energy Saver section to see if Drive Sleep is enabled (or disabled). If enabled, change it to Disabled and see if the issue persists.

Drive Sleep Enabling this function allows the hard drives to go into standby mode to save power after a designated period of inactivity. Drive Sleep is enabled to sleep after approximately 10 minutes by default.
  • To enable/disable Drive Sleep, click the toggle button.

PS: And yes, if WD borked an update one could experience unusual issues.
