My Cloud Home Refuses to reset

I have a MyCloud Home that was running fine for a few months, some unknown reason I have lost access. It was showing up on my https://home.mycloud.com/ accoiunt, but as “offline” I detached it form that account and I have attempted to reset it 5-10 times.

No other WD drives on the network
Holding reset button while power cycling and waiting 60 seconds

If I try to add new storage to the https://home.mycloud.com/ account it cannot find the drive I am am prompted to contact customer service. I have done that, but it is a tedious process with them and thought there might be something else I can try.

I have other WD NAS HDD"s that are I went through a similar reset with and all working fine, but this one refuses to go back into reset mode?

Hi @silsurf,

Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:

I have the same problem. I am unable to reset the My Cloud Home by pressing the reset button for over 60 seconds. If I press the reset while inserting the power cord. the LED blinks on and off. If I unplug and plug in the LED immediately turns solid white. I contacted support one month ago. Not sure but after a week of trying things it started working after I detached the device from my cloud account. I have sent another request for technical support but not very optimistic it will work. This is very unreliable for a backup device. I am thinking about throwing it away.

Hi @silsurf, I experience the same issue and was curious to know if it’s fixed by now. I just submitted a ticket, but was wandering if there is a solution offered to you, to keep my hopes up…

Same problem here, anyone was able to sort this out?

I gave up (OP) I have had a love/hate relationship with WD for many years. I use WD drives for two things. I use their pocket drives for backups and love them and havent had many issues over the years and I use the Home NAS series for use with my home theater to stream media only because of the price point. I have always had issues on this side, but usually one it is running it does well. The unit that would not re-integrate into my system was out of warranty and WD was not going to do anything about it. I know if I pressed them they would eventually give me a discount or something on a new one, but I already had a newer one which is running fine.

I started to disassemble the Home unti (not that easy) to sell for parts, but got sidetracked.

That is the end of my story

Starting to think about the same…
Still waiting for feedback from the Tech Support but I’m still not able to reset it or even get access to the logs to see what the problem is…

Ridiculous given that the device is just 4 Years old.

Four years is well out of warranty, so I don’t think you will have much luck. I guess it is what they called bricked. If there is any silver lining, I was able to access my BackBlaze full restore sent to me on a ext HDD and have full recovery. When you send back the drive they refund in full, so it was free! Really highly Recommend BackBlaze for an offsite backup

Yes, I know it’s out o warranty but is still a pretty new device with only 4 Years!
Unfortunately the support is not the best.

I just disassembled the crappy WD myCloud home just to find out the disk unit is perfect - nothing wrong with it, so essentially it was a problem either with the Software or the myCloud unit.

The 6TB disk will now be used on the Sinology NAS I’m buying shortly.
No more WD products for me (apart from disk drives).

WD is a funny company, they fill a niche I guess, but I will invest in a Sinology next time, probably. I have zero issues running my WD Home NAS, but hate that the only way to add files is through a public folder connection (outside of the WD environment)

I will retrieve my drive eventually, it was not easy getting the case off, now I just need to get the drive out of the cage.
