My Cloud Ex2 keeps flashing LED HDD 1&2 -2x2TB -RAID1 -805GB free -

Hello Everyone,

I have a My Cloud Ex2 with 2x2TB WD red WD20efrx, latest firmeware 2.11.157, RAID1, 805GB free, all checks are okay, no errors on dashboard, no high temp, all in green.

But still my Ex2 is running like hell, blue LED HDD1 and 2 are blinking all the time. It also takes al long time to acces a file. Even after a weekend off no usage my Ex2 is still blinking on both HDD.

My Ex2 is in a network, used with 2 Mac Pro’s accessable via UTPcat5, via a 10/100Mb hub.

No acces via outside, no Media streaming, no FTP, no HTTP-downloads, no P2P-downloads, just plain office fileserver job for my Ex2.

But still running like hell, still being slow.

So has anybody have any ideas on how to fix this.

IPv4 = DHCP
IPv6 = off
Jumboframe = off
FTP acces = off
AFP acces = on
NFS service = on
WebDAV = off
SNMP = off
SSH = off
Dynamic DNS = off

Seems the situation is not very clear.

As per your explaination only 2 mac’s are using it. Close to 1.25 tb of data in the nas.

How frequently do you read and write and what kind of files do you have.

Also you have to remember that RAID 1 mirror’s 1st drive to 2nd one and it might take time

Again the Lan port speed is very less say 1/10th of actual 1gb line. So you better connect it via 1gb line/Switch and see if the situation improves

Its fine. That not like instantly the data’s are written . Some data will be done instantly Some will take time .

You can monitor the cpu , ram and network usage in the dashboard and see if any unusal usage trend.

Thanks for the answer, but my Ex2 is running for over 2 years now, and lately the CPU is at 100% due to WDMCSERVER and WDPHOTOdbmerger.

Thats is cause of the problem. See when CPU is 100% utilized then it will cause the transfer rate’s to struggle.

Do this. Try to pause or stop the WD sync apps in your Apple mac book’s and see if you can bring down the usage to say 50%

Thanks again DirtyMacho, could it be that when I changed from Mac OSX Lion to El Capitan on my Mac Pro that finder in El Capitan is causing this?

Yes it might be different the way the files are synched. So remove the sync software and reinstall and give it reboot for both NAS and mac to see if the cpu usage is below 50-60 . This usage is normal if you have 1 or 2 softwares running in apps section and instead of wd sync

Try resilio sync its much better. May be less cpu usage. Just in case again if you face the same issue.
