My Cloud Compatible With WD TV Live Media Player Gen 1?

Does anyone know if WD’s My Cloud network staorage is compatible with WD TV Live Media Player Gen 1 ?

Yes it is.

Gen 1 does not even have Network Access  :confounded:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD_TV

(_ unless, _ you’re using WDLXTV Custom Firmware and a USB Wi-Fi Dongle … niether of which are “Officially Supported”)

Secondly, WDTV’s (“Live” models and later) will be able to access the My Cloud … but only on your “Home Network”

Remote (Cloud) Access … No

Sure it does.

“Gen 1” = WD TV Live HD

“Gen 2” = WD TV Live Plus

“Gen 3” = WD Live SMP

LOL … “Live” devices are not classed as “Gen 1 or 2”

Gen 1 = http://support.wdc.com/product/kb.asp?groupid=1001

Gen 2 = http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=1004&lang=en

read the wiki link again if you don’t believe me … (ps i own a Gen 1 and it does not have LAN / WLAN)

That wiki DOES refer to the Live Plus as a “Live 2nd Gen,” which implicitly means the Live HD is the first.

The WD TV HD had a 1st and 2nd generation
The WD TV Live had three generations.

It’s funny how the WDTV Live is not referred to much as Gen 1 … i mean, not even the official WD support page has the Gen 1 suffix.

Oh well, back to the OP, yes the WDTV Live (or WDTV Live “Gen1”) will work with the My Cloud (on a Home Network)

Wow, not even the pros have it easy concerning the naming scheme. You just gotta love the marketing department for coming up with that.

yeah it get’s confusing :confounded:  i still don’t know what “Gen” the 2014 WDTV Media Player is

Gen 2 or Gen 4 ??

it’s listed as 2nd Gen here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD_TV

but it’s 4th Gen here: http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Main_Page

What Gen is the WDTV Live Hub ? … i’m guessing that’s 2nd Gen (since according to wiki it’s basically a Live Plus spec wise … but with an added internal hdd) ???

anyways … i digress, back to my RPi2 + Kodi 15:wink:

Well, it’s really the users that comeup with that “Gen” term – I don’t think WD ever referred to the new WD TV as “Gen 4” – because in all reality, there was the OLD WD TV HD (Gen 1 and 2) – so this would be the Gen 3 of the “WD TV” line.

Speaking of Kodi, I gave it another try and I’m still annoyed, Amazon did not include volume keys on the AFTV remote. Can I remap up+down keys to work like that during playback exclusively (so I still can use them for navigation in folders)?

not sure … there may be something in here

http://kodi.wiki/view/Keymaps

http://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Keymap_Editor

Yes, you can change the keymaps to any specific context.

However, keep in mind that if you’re using passthrough (optical or hdmi) audio, volume doesn’t do anything.

so … you just use your Audio Receiver Remote Control to turn the Volume Up and Down when using passthrough (which is what i do)

Yeah, I know. Gonna check it out, thx.
