My Cloud 4TB NAS

It says USB 3.0 supports USB drives for additional storage. I want to know what is maximum capacity additional USB drive can we connect to a 4TB My Cloud NAS.

I’ve gone as high as 16 TB by adding 4 x 4 TB drive enclosures to a USB3 hub then attaching to the hub to NAS , not sure about highest drive size for a single drive , the 4TB enclosures were the most economical cost per/TB to buy.

The My Cloud User Manual (http://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904) indicates in Chapter 12 Connecting a USB Hard Drive one can add as many as seven external USB drives to the My Cloud USB port. Using a USB hub of course. However, if one searches through this subforum (magnifying glass icon upper right) they’ll see that some have had trouble getting more than four or five external USB drives recognized by the My Cloud firmware.

Don’t think anyone has reported an upper limit, single drive TB capacity wise, to external USB drives that one connects to the My Cloud.

Some past discussion on using multiple USB hard drives:
