My (brand new) Passport 4 TB is not working in Windows 7

I just purchased the My Passport backup unit on November 30, 2018 from Target.

The unit is not recognized on my PC.

When I plugged it into my MacBook Pro, the following message appeared.

What is it telling me?

Tuxera NTFS

Tuxera NTFS could not mount /dev/disk2s1

at /Volumes/My Passport because the following problem occurred:

The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0).

The file system wasn’t safely closed on Windows. Fixing.

NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it’s a

SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows

then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very

important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate

it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.

/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the ‘dmraid’ documentation

for more details.

WD wants to charge me $5.00 for shipping it back to them for a replacement using an RMA.

I don’t agree that I should have to pay anything for shipping if their unit fails to work.

Perhaps, I should just return it to Target, but I’m not informed as to their return policy for electronic items such as this.

You may contact Western Digital, to see whether they would be able to provide you the shipping label without cost.
