Hello. My drive A has failed, I have found a replacement drive (yes with same model number) used. Once my drive came in, I have formatted with WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics without partitions etc and check for bad sectors, no issues, perfect drive. When I disconnect all cables, replace failed drive A with another drive that I just purchased, after a few minutes running, it shows BAD and red light is on. Why??? My drive is perfect per WD software. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you
I’d recommend double-checking the hard drive in case it was not properly inserted. Additionally, you would need to consider the possibility if the RAID controller being the one at fault as opposed to the hard drive in question (Which can be confirmed by testing the original failed hard drive).
There’s also the possibility of the entire RAID volume needing to be rebuilt. For example, if you were using RAID 0 as opposed to RAID 1.
I experienced similar situation with red light and advised drive B was malfunctioning, although all diagnostics shows it was healthy. After shutting down both My Book Duo and my PC and restarting everything seemed to be working OK again. So far, about a week, all has been OK.
However upon trying to buy a replacement drive I found out the WD no longer makes the green drives and advise that only green drives will function in My Book Duo!! What a rip off they sell a product knowing that drives eventually can fail and stop making the drives within the likely failure time.
I am buying another system form Synology which can use any drive and will never by WD again. what a way to treat customers!
FWIW the 4TB WD Elements Desktop drives are WD Green Power drives. If you haven’t purchased already its a good way to buy them.
