My Book Live Cannot Be Accessed

Hi. I recently bought a 3TB My Book Live. I can access it from the network for a short time and then it stops allowing access. For example, I was copying files across to it without a problem. Then I tried copying another folder across it stopped allowing access. When I clicked on the network drive that I has set up, the message told me “Microsoft Windows Network: The Local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored”. When I try connecting via the My Book Live App, I see the picture of the drive. When I click on the picture, it says it is connecting, then just goes back to the picture again. The drive had only been turned on for about four hours - I turned it off overnight because of the same problem.

The only way to gain access to the drive again is to reset it / turn it off and back on again. This has happened a number of time. I no longer have any confidence in it!

Anyone any ideas?


Maybe it’s trying to use an IP that another device is already been assigned?
