My Book Essentials set up as network based drive - need help with set up

I recently purchased a 2TB My Book Essentials and connected it to the USB port on my router in an attempt to have a network based drive to send backups for both of my home computers to. My computer recognizes that the drive is attached to the network, I can access the files that are pre-installed on the drive. When I attempt to set up backup to the drive, it is not available, either in Windows Backup and Restore, or in WD SmartWare. What am I missing?

Check the share settings and make sure that you are  allowing the connection. Also confirm that the firewall of your router is allowing the connection.

Are you able to test the drive connected directly to the computer?
