I think my Essentials 2tb drive is dead. It wont connect properly to my Mac anymore… Is there something that normally goes on these drives? It seems to connect but then looses connection or something. Anythin i can fix? Or just rip the drive out and try it as an internal or put it in a different enclosure? My other Essentials is dying too i think. It seems to be taking longer and longer to connect to my Sony BD,
1- Connect the power adapter to the wall directly.
2- If the computer is a desktop, connect it on the back USB port (directly to the PC, not through a hub). If possible try a different USB cable.
3- Go to "Disk Utility” to verify if the drive shows up there.
If the drive shows up in "Disk Utility” but it is not seen on the desktop, then it means the partition is corrupted and you will have to format it in order to use it again. Please note that formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.
Try verifying the drive and its permissions with the Disk Utility. Also, if it will stay connected at all, pull any data you want off ASAP. Same goes for the other drive if you have suspicions that it is getting flakey. Don’t wait until it kicks the bucket.
