I have recently upgraded from OSX snow leopard to lion. On snow leopard, my external hard drive (WD my book essential) was backing up perfectly. Since upgrading to OSX lion, the drive has gone into read-only mode so it will not back up. I have seen discussions related to this issue dating as far back as last august but have yet to find a solution. I have just installed the latest update for both the hard drive and OSX lion (10.7.3) and still no luck.

Can any one help?

Did you see if there were new drivers on the WD site? They recently released Turbo drivers for Mac but i don’t know much about Macs.

As Joe suggested try downloading the  Turbo Drivers.

If you still have the same problem, backup the data and reformat the drive.
