I just bought a My Book Essential and I plugged it in and the LED will not power on and the drive won’t boot up. what is wrong this is brand new sealed.
Well for one thing My Book Essential is for Windows I assume you have a Mac since this posted in the Mac section.

As Joe points out, the Essential comes Windows-ready. You need to format that drive on Disk Utility before you can do anything with it…
