My Book Essential Won't Unlock

Up until recently, my 1.5 TB HDD would unlock and run without any problems.  Most recently, everytime I try to open the WD SmartWare “disk drive” to run unlock.exe, but at least one (if not both) of these freeze in windows.  I have tried this on multiple machines, done the whole usual suspects (e.g. unplug and wait, plug back in, update firmware, etc.) and have still come up empty.

Does anyone have some strategies to fix this?

If you’re locked out something is definitely corrupt. Since you tried on different machines you are probaly out of luck for data recovery.
