MY Book Essential USB cord won't fit in USB slot

I’m trying to connect my  My Book EssentialsUSB cable to my USB port on my Emachines E725 and it won’t connect. There’s a blue strip where other USB cable plus have nothing. Is ther something I’m missing? It won’t fit.

There shouldn’t be a problem connecting the usb port to the computer as long as its compatible like 2.0 >2.0 

firewire > firewire and so on if you having trouble with your data cable I would suggest you contact wd tech support for another one here is the link.
