My Book Essential copied only read only

Hi there,  I have a mybook essential that I have used to backup my files.  It appeared that the files copied correctly but when I go to open them on my other computer, they are read only.  For example, I have a ton of embroidery files but cannot see the file only the read only portion of it.  What did I do wrong?

What OS are you using and are you sharing between Windows and Mac?

If you didn’t re-format the drive when you got it, it’s probably formatted as NTFS.

As far as I know, Macs see NTFS partitions as read-only – they can’t write to NTFS.
