Have a My Book Essential 750 GB that is not booting on my Mac (OS 10.5.8) . Get a quick flash of blue light on indicator when I plug in. Will start spinning up for about 1 or 2 seconds then stop with no indicator light on at all. After reading some posts, have tried another power adaptor to see if that was the problem, but get same results. Can’t find any firmware update for it. Was working yesterday, but now…

Any suggestions, or is it even possible to salvage any data?

Hi there, it’s possible to recover the data if the problem is just the case… You’ll need to dismantle it to check if the HDD inside is working fine to connect it inside your computer or change the case.

Taking a look at it, how do I dismantle it? Is there some sort of repair manual that you can send or direct me to?
