My Book Essential 3TB Missing FIles and Folders

I got the My Book Essential 3TB about 2 months ago from Best Buy.

It was working great until a few days ago.

It used to show up in my computer as My Book (F:).

Now it it just shows up as (F:).

When I try to open it all of my files and folders are gone.

It is completely empty.

When I click on properties it shows up as 0byts of 0byts free.

It shows up in Device Manager and Disk Manager as “Healthy”

I have had the same experience on multiple computers.

I know it has power since it plugs direclty into the wall and I can hear the disk spinning.

I have not tried a new SS cable but I am guessing since it is showing in my computer it is not the SS cable.

Any help you cna give would be huge.

A low signal strength due to a bad cable could have that effect. Try another cable. It is also possible that the hard drive has failed, while the enclosure still works. Try the smartware diagnostics.

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

Hi there, you mention that it is “Healthy” on Disk Management, but does it show a File System (NTFS, exFAT. etc.)? If it doesn’t then the drive lost the file system. If that is the case you should be able to recover the files using TestDisk.

Also, when a drive is Healthy but lost the File System then that means that a computer error was the one who killed the FS and you should check your computer for errors or it may happen again.
