Hello,

How do I find information about my older My Book Essential 1,5 tb, bought March 2011.

It has a label on the wire USB 2.0

But in case I use another wire, would it be able to work with USB 3.0?

I have a new laptop with USB 3.0 and would like to get better speed.

With that old wire My Book would not work in USB 3.0,

I have tested that.

So my question is, is that old wire the problem?

Or is there some other way to get USB 3.0 speed?

You can’t run a drive made for USB 2.0 drive at USB 3.0 speeds.

I now plugged this ole usb 2.0 wire to usb 3.0 in my laptop

and am able to read My Book Essential however.

Or is it so, that speed is not higher?

I am asking this while I looked at a advertisement of My Book Essential 1,5 tb and

it said usb 2.0 or “you may also use usb 3.0 in the future”

Those words made me think if my devise also with a usb 3.0 wire would reach that speed?

My new HP laptop has both usb 2.0 and usb 3.0.
