My Book Ess Still vibrates and makes noise when suspended

Hi Community,

Well “My Book Ess 3TB” has done this intermittently since I purchased it.

It normally servers as a media folder on my network for dlna streaming from my router.

Even with the “indicator led” solid on and PC off the drive will thump around vibrating my desk and at times does this plugged into my router aswell.

Netgear WNDR4500 router…

This behavior happens with USB 2 or 3 ports…

I do not have “Smartware” installed… Is it worth installing or is it “Bloatware”?

Any Ideas? TYiA

Hello,

WD External Drives should not vibrate this much. You should feel the vibration only if you touch the drive with your hands. I recommend that you replace this drive. If it is still under warranty you should process a RMA.

How to get an RMA, (Return Merchandise Authorization) or replace a defective product under warranty

Well, My Warranty ran out of the 25th of Dec last year.

I have another 1TB drive that is whisper quiet… anyway, I upgraded the firmware on both… Installed “Smartware” and set the sleep timer to 10 mins.

The 3TB drive seems to be behaving now… sleeping when the PC is turned off etc…

Thank you for the advice.
