My Book 4TB connectivity issues

I have a WD My Book 4TB WD40EZRX external drive. The drive has power, but will not recognize on my PC or laptop. The disk is spinning, but there appears to be a connectivity issue with the drive itself. The connectivity is intermittent at best, and I believe that is the reason it will not recognize on my PC. It use to work fine… We were contemplating replacing the Control Board, but after researching the issue a little bit did not think that would be the solution. I have about 100 GB of data on the drive that I do not want to lose. Any thoughts???

Is the drive connected directly to the wall outlet or to a surge protector? In case the drive is connected to a surge protector, try to connect it directly to the wall.
