My 500gb external hard drive seized up,any ideas?

MY WD500GB EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE WAS MAKING EXCESSIVE NOISE AND WHEN I PICKED IT UP WHILE IT WAS POWERED UP IT SEEMED LIKE THE HARDDRIVE CAME TO A SUDDEN HALT AND ALMOST JERKED OUT OF MY HAND(SCARED THE ■■■■ OUT OF ME).NOW IT POWERS UP(LED LIGHTS UP)BUT IT IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY MY COMPUTER.WHAT CAN I DO?CAN I OPEN UP THE HARD DRIVE AND CHECK OR IS IT A TOTAL LOSS?ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT,OT OF 500GIG ITS ABOUT 425GIG FULL.

1, take off hard drive from unit and connect into other PC directly for check.still can’t recognized?

I OPENED UP THE EXTERNAL AND REMOVED THE ACESS COVER THAT HOUSES THE DISCS AND THE DRIVE ARM.IT CANNOT BE SPUN BY HAND.IS THIS NORMAL OR DID THE DRIVE MOTOR SEIZE UP?

you have been open the hard drive covery???

what do you want to do? make the drive work again or take off data from it?

i think you make it worse already.
