It was my desire to leave this device online on my home network and take it with me periodically. I had no idea it would overheat when on longer than 30 minutes. All drives support going into suspend when not in use. OS’ can wake up on network (or other I/O access). Why hasn’t WD built this basic functionality into these devices? Is there a way to accomplish this? Anyone ‘hacked’ the OS to enable these basic features?
Simple … because the My Passport Wireless was not designed to be an “Always On” Network Drive.
