MPEG playback problems

I’m having issues playing MPEG files. The media player runs for a few minutes than quits. If you want to fast forward to a specific time, it doesn’t show the videos full playback time. I’ve restarted the player with no luck. I checked the specifications, and it’s supposed to work. The video file specifications are the following:

What firmware are you running?

I just purchased and installed my WD TV Live unit yesterday and noticed the same problem. Some MPEG’s I can scan and they’ll stop with at 20 to 30 second range of where I hit stop; other will return back to where I started scanning even if I’ve scanned forward or reverse for 10 minutes.

I use “Any Video Convertor” freeware to convert all my videos and the codecs are always set as follows:

Video:

Codec: mpeg2video

Bitrate: 8,000

Audio:

Codec: ac3
Bitrate: 128

I was running firmware 1.12.14; however, I’m in the process of updating to 1.13.18 now. I’ll post with the results.

Finished the upgrade to 1.13.18… No change in the ability to stop properly while scanning MPEG’s.

Personally, I’ll just keep re-encoding until I find the file format that works best for scanning and pausing.

I coverted an MPEG file to both AVI and MKV… Both of these formats will play a converted MPEG and will also play from the extact point the file was scanned to.

AVIs and MKVs are also substantially smaller. I plan on saving files in MKV and if I want to burn them to a DVD, then I’ll convert them to MPEG.
