Mp4 video and audio badly out of sync (several seconds)

Firmware 1.03.10

Wd tv live streamer

I have just upgraded from the old wd live box to the new hw. An mp4 video (full hd, pal, 25 fps) that used to play perfectly on the old box now is badly out of sync (by several seconds after the first 30 seconds of playback) on the new.

Both boxes were connected with hdmi, with hdmi resolution set to auto.

Same behavior on the new box irrespective of dlna playback or samba file sharing.

The video is hosted on a netgear duo nas via cabled Ethernet. The conDtext for the two boxes is the same - have just changed over the hardware 2 days ago.

Best regards
Scott

Sorry small error in original post - the file characteristics are :

File type : MP4 Video

Frame dimensions: 1920 x 1080

Frame rate : 50 fps (not 25)

Data rate 4738kbps

Size : 168MB

Plays perfectly on old WD box and to my PC (windows media player), but significant audio lag on the new WD Live box.

Have tried power cycling and reset to factory defaults.   Still the same issue.

Best Regards,

Scott.

What is the AUDIO Format of the file.

Please post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for such a file.

http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net

Note - just to be clear - the following file plays flawlessly on the old WD live box (I have just played it once again to verify) - fyi the old box is running SW 1.06.15V, no delays/sync issues whatsoever.

I then remove the old WD live box and put the V2 box in - same power, HDMI and network connection.  The new box then starts playing the file (audio and video), but the video is slightly jerky (degraded frame rate) and the audio gets out of sync quite quickly.  After about 30 seconds the video continues but the sound is gone.

Should also add - I have also now tried playing the file from a USB stick (as opposed to network streaming) on the new V2 WD Live box - same result as net streaming result above so it looks like a straight MP4 decode issue…

Yes, there are AAC issues in MP4 containers.  Go search for that in the ISSUES section and “vote” for that.

yeah AAC is a horrible codec for most small devices

asus transformer hates it to

i use mkvmerge 4.4 must be this version compatiblity issues with audioconverter beyond this

and popcornhour audio converter

i’ve been doing it for the last week converting all my mkv’s and mp4’s that are AAC to AC3

just started using handbrake for cutting the 4 gig files down a bit no idea if it can change the audio codec yet
