MP4 Playing, or not

I have an issue with MP4s that I have downloaded. When I add them to WD Live Hub Media Player, the media player tells me that the format is not supported. I have however been happily watching downloaded MP4s (from the same site) for about 6 months.

Will the firmware update fix this problem?

http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download/Windows

Use the app above and paste in the info from the media file from that.

I am guessing here and think your downloads format has changed to 10bit, which the WD does not support.

I’m having the exact same problems with my (old) WD TV Live Plus, they all stem from one particular group (FOV) releasing new mp4 video over the past few weeks. Today I have just discovered that episode 1 from a new season of a show works perfectly, but episode 2 does not.

I have opened both of these files with mediaInfo and they are SO similar I just can;t see why one works and the other does not. Could someone please explain to me why? I’m purplexed

Is it something in the Encoding Settings line?

Episode 1 works perfectly:

Thank you if you can point this out for me.

My apologies I see that this is the hub forum. Still I hope the question is actually generic enough that someone can spot what is different between the two files that causes one to play and one to be unsupported.

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1875632

Just googled Wd Live and MP4.

Interesting the post on here saying this, which links your files and theirs.

Some British TV files with constant frame rate (according to MediaInfo) don’t work either. The only consistent feature for me so far of non-working MP4 files is that they have “Writing Application: Peter Bishop” and are missing any Encoded Date and Tagged Date data fields.

Thanks indeed for the reply.

I indeed have seen that discussion already (google led me there too) and indeed as you mention all the files I have problems with have the “Peter Bishop” tag.

A lot of searching on that topic has not brought any successful outcome. The obvious solution would be to not download a video from the FOV group anymore, but unfortunately there are no other options for the particular show I am interested in.

Still hoping someone will notice something simple that we can sneakily edit with a hex editor or something and get these files working!

Thanks.

The Hub would never see this text, so think you will have to re-encode to get them to work.

On a seperate note you do understand that these groups and files are piracy, so maybe you need to watch what you are saying.
