MP4 file plays on Live Plus, but not Streaming

Hi all.  I have a particular .mp4 movie file that when played on my Live Plus, it plays without error.  When I play it on my Streaming box (latest fw) it plays with no audio and about 20 seconds in it will freeze.  This causes all other files to say that the file type is not supported, blah, blah, blah until I do a hard re-boot of the Streaming box.  Other .mp4 files play fine, though I have not tested all of them.  Any help would be appreciated.  File info is below:

This might be a bad code or the movie is bad ( the encode), I have seen this with MKV files, but never with MP4. Can you try and re-code this movie?

What is your “Streaming Device?”

TonyPh - My streaming device is the WDTV Live Streaming media player, the new one.

And to the poster above, I’ll try re-encoding today and post the results, thanks for the suggestion!

How about simply using Yamb to first demultiplex and then remultiplex it instead of recoding?

Perhaps its a simple muxing Problem?

I am having the exact same problem.  My movie library is all mp4 with AAC (320 vbr) and High@4.0 1920x1080 AVC1.  All the movies are on a SAMBA share and all are playable on PCH A110, Popbox, WDTV Live Plus.

However, the WDTV Live Streaming will only play about 20 secs and without audio.

As a test, I have converted an MP4 movie to an MKV without transcoding.  Just changing the container, and the movie plays just fine.

So it would appear to be an issue with playing MP4 via a network share.

Very disappointed with this player.

There may indeed be an issue with AAC in MP4…

That’s the only combination I’ve had problems with on the SMP.

But for ME, the worst it’s been is a minor out-of-sync condition, easily fixable via the Audio Sync Delay function.   And it does this whether it’s on USB or NAS.

I would recommend you open an issue with WD and let them know.   They may wish for you to upload them a sample media that exhibits this issue.

I did the same as elwood did and coverted the file and just changed the container to .mkv.  It worked.  I tested out most of my other .mp4s that have acc audio and they were fine.  So hopefully this is an isolated incident.
