MP4 and DTS

Hello,

I tried to encode some blu-rays into MP4 files with DTS which worked successfully on the computer.

However, on the WDTV LIVE, there is no audio and WD picks up the audio source as AAC.

I have the live connected to my Pioneer receiver via HDMI.

Is it possible to run DTS pass through in MP4 container on the live, or is still best to use in a MKV container (to which i’ve never had a problem).

Using all latest firmwares as well.

Thank you.

If the WD says it’s AAC, then it’s AAC, not DTS.

Yes, it’s possible to put DTS in an MP4 container.

Please post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for such a file as a confirmation.

Will do, I’ll post them tonight. I know it was DTS pass through on HB with a 2 channel AAC as second audio. That one worked fine. On the computer, both played fine. I’m just wondering as well if anyone successfully has played a MP4 with DTS on the WD as well.

Same issue here.  Unfortunately the WDTV Live Manual specifically lists no DTS in MP4 containers.

So, it’s not true that if the WD says it’s AAC then it’s AAC, because it says that for DTS in MP4 containers.

MKV will pass through DTS though, and the DTS Core from DTS-HD MA.  It will also passthrough TrueHD.  It appears that MKV is the way to go as far as audio quality is concerned.
