Moving Time Machine existing backup to MyBook Live

I just received my 2TB MyBook Live and would like to use part of it for Time Machine.  I have 2 questions.

  1. Can you partition the MyBook Live?  If so, how do you mount it as a NFS to use the Disk Utility?

  2. If you can’t partition, how can you move an existing Time Backup to it so in the future Time Machine recognizes the MyBook Live as the source?

Thanks!

Michael

Your My Book Live is a self-contained computer system, and therefore the partition scheme cannot be altered.  You cannot use Disk Utility to alter remote computer disks.

As far as I know, you can’t move existing Time Machine backups.  Your best bet is to simply go into Time Machine settings, then change the backup disk to your My Book Live and start backing up your computer to your My Book Live from this point forward.
