Moving EX2 Ultra drive to PC

Greetings,
I want to move the entire content of a drive in my ex2 ultra to a drive in my pc. I thought i could just put the drive in my tower and then copy from one drive to another but windows will not read the ext3 filesystem.

What is the quickest method for copying the data on the ex2 ultra drive to a drive on my windows pc?

thanks.

Hello Mr.Shickadance,

I presume that Parted Magic would be the quickest way for the task, even more so as I think it will most probably work without need of any special tricks. Just load this Linux live distribution down to your USB stick or CD e.g. and boot your Windows PC from it. Nothing else is required for this, not even manually making the USB stick bootable. You should then be able to copy your data to your target drive by simply using the Parted Magic file manager or the Linux command shell. Using the file manager even will automatically mount the EX2 Ultra drive in your tower, I think, so it may be accessible without bothering about mounting it.

Thanks for this solution ichbeans. I have about 4TB of data that i dragged and dropped from one drive to another in Parted Magic’s file manager and is bouncing between 6 and 11 hours remaining moving 90-140MiB/sec. I thought it would move a little quicker than that but c’est la vie?

Warning to others on this solution, Parted Magic cost $11 USD, but i was so frustrated I gladly paid it, may be a free option out there if you look. Maybe even using any other usb bootable linux distro like this, i dont know.

Sorry, I thought this was still free software but obviously isn´t any more. I have found an older and legal free version in the internet, dating back 2013. I guess this has been the point in time where they decided to take money. It´s been some time since I was more up to date.
As to time used for copy, I believe the file manager by default checks thoroughly for copy errors, which naturally takes extra time. I also think one would be able to change this, either for the file manager itself (rather not) or for the method used by the Linux Shell (when using the Shell for copying the data). Maybe the Shell is faster even without further doings, I can´t tell. But meanwhile the job is done anyway, I hope.
