Can someone point me to the difference between all these types of themes?
I searched but couldn’t find anything that helped a novice.
Thanks!

moviesheets -
official support
uses xml files
slow
has a photoslide show effect, which many do not like
moviesheets are stored in same directory as movies
does not support moviesheets for folders
linksheets
does not use xml files
does not have official wd support
linksheets go inside the theme’s root folder (SMP is limited to 30MB without custom firmware)
fast
images are static
requires renaming files after they are created
supports linksheets for folders
Thanks. But what is a moviesheet? Are they created automatically?
Moviesheet is a backdrop image, usually showing an image and/or metadata.
There is no difference in “Moviesheets” and “Linksheets” other then the way they are implemented.
No, you have to use an external program like Thumbgen: http://thumbgen.org/
I’ve used Thumbgen to create some movie sheets, but I can’t get them to show?
you need to use the appropriate moviesheet with the appropriate theme. Most themes come with their own template. and usually they each have different instructions on setup within thumbgen
Hello, my first post here.
I recently purchased a WDTV Live SMP (WDBHG70000NBK) and I have a few questions.
First, @KAD79 :
You mentioned the following about linksheets.
linksheets go inside the theme’s root folder (SMP is limited to 30MB without custom firmware)
Is this still true if my movies are on an external 2TB HDD attached by USB?
In other words can I install the theme (and the linksheets) on the external HDD and circumvent the 30MB limit?
Secondly, I have a lot of movies on the external HDD each in its own folder, structured as follows:
Drive:\Movie A\Movie A.avi
Drive:\Movie B\Movie B.avi
etc.
I want to create a folder sheer for the entire Drive and still be able to have some movie information on there.
Would that be possible with link sheets?
And finally I I read on this forum about genre folders.
Is there a way to “shortcut” the movies into genre folders.
That way I can keep my file structure in tact, but still use genre folders.
My first question arose while reading the explanation about linksheets here, the rest might be a bit off topic.
I apologize in advance.

this is still true
the problem is official firmware only allows theme’s to be uploaded to internal NAND storage
limit is 30MB for the entire theme, regardless of where your movies are
WDLXTV allows storing the theme on any external drive you want
ie you’re only limited by the size of the hdd you use
but a word of caution, while I’m a big supporter of custom firmware
WDLXTV for the SMP is very early alpha
it’s stable but has many known bugs
