MKV movie freezes

After following the instructions from the WD TV Live box to upgrade the firmware, some of my MKV movies freeze while playing.  The same movies have no problem when playing with the previous version of the firmware!  I checked them with older WD Media players (Original and Live Plus) and did not experirence the same problem.

Can you post the full media info of the your MKV movie?

I have experienced the same problem with both version “4” and version “5” firmware.

I have a brand new and formatted My Book Essential hooked up to the USB port (front and back have same problem) and can only watch 5 ~ 25 minutes of any .mkv file before it locks up and requires media player and hard drive reboot.

During the time the player does work, it is very impressive.

I can play any other type of file I have thrown at it including DVD ISO’s.

Looking for a solution…

I *think* I’ve seen this, but I’m not sure if it’s the same thing.

It doesn’t happen often… I can watch dozens of TV shows without it occuring, but just a little while ago, an Episode of SCRUBS ripped to MKV froze at the 18 minute mark.

When I hit BACK, it did go back to the menu, and the frozen image of the TV show remained in the background.

I waited a couple of minutes, and then the backdrops started re-appearing.   I was then able to RESUME.

The prior few times it’s happened, I didn’t wait the few minutes, I rebooted.

All of mine are streamed from a NAS, so I’ve not tried USB…

I’m having the same issue, I just backdown one firmware but still have the issue.

I have a 3TB drive connected via USB, the drive as 875gb free.

The mkv file plays fine for about 10 minutes then freezes as I put more files on it freezes quicker as I get closer to the capacity of the 3TB. MKV files that I had copied over early in the drives life work fine.

Very odd, assuming that this devices supports 3tb usb drives.

I also have a 2tb drive on the same unit, I copied the same mkv to this drive and it plays just fine so it something to do with the 3tb drive

Mkv work ok for me always have done…

i `ve got the same problem streaming mkv files over me network via smb, the movie freeze or sometimes it make a reboot!

I am having problems with stuttering on really busy scenes of 1080p MKV rips which I didnt used to have with the older firmware. Can I go back ? if so - how can I go back -  http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/updates/?family=wdfwdtv_live_G3

you only seem to host the latest FW which I dont want - because it renderd my WD TV live pretty useless for watching my files.

Download the official rollback firmware from the page above and follow the instructions.
