MKV files won't stream from My Cloud to Smart TV -QUESTION-

I find out that even though i have a my cloud 3tb device and a smart tv to stream movies, the smart tv can’t read mkv files. Instead of converting my mkv’s to mp4s, is there alternative to stream the mkv’s?

maybe use an additional playing device like a raspberry pi or fireTV?

No. You either have to convert the files to a format your smart TV can play or you need another device (like a Roku or the like) connected to your that will support playing MKV formatted files.

You can use a free program like  Handbrake to convert from MKV to MP4 if your TV supports MP4 format. You can setup a queue in Handbrake to mass convert multiple files one after another.
