MKV files skipping when playing from WD My Book

Hello,

First time poster. Thanks for any advice that is given,

I have a few movie files that are in MKV format. Recently while watching them the first few minutes the movie seems fine, but then it starts to skip and pause, then continues to play through the movie, then repeats the skipping and pausing. I’ve fast forwarded through the skipping and pausing, but can’t figure out why the skipping is occurring.

I’ve used MKV vergeto up the FPS, but then when I do that, the audio is trailing behind the FPS. I’d love for the movie to stop the skipping in general, so I really appreciate any help here.

Thanks!

Is this a My Book WORLD, which is NETWORK attached?   Or is this a USB-attached drive?

go download http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net

and post the TEXT output for a file that’s causing you issues.

Don’t EVER change the Frame-rate of a video file unless you know EXACTLY WHAT and WHY you are doing it.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the quick reply. I realize i probably shouldn’t have changed the FPS, but wanted to test it out, to see if that would solve the issue at hand, but it didn’t. I appreciate your help. This isn’t a My book World, just a WD My Book.

The WD My Book is attached by USB to the WD TV Live, which is networked.

Here’s the text output of the file in question

I’m guessing you didn’t encode this file yourself (it has internet download written all over it) so my advice is simple – take your original DVD and encode it yourself with Handbrake, using the High Profile preset (but change the output type to MKV and pass through the DTS track).  It will then play just fine.

I don’t see anything obviously wrong about the file;  you might try defragmenting your drive to see if that improves things.

Also, given the moderately high bitrate of the file, it may not play well if your WDTV is still busy compiling the media library (the USB light flashing.)
