TW, Bytecopy is somewhat adjustable; especially for WD players.

Not really, you don’t adjust to a player anyway, only to what your display size is (as far as quality goes).  The adjustment that they have are basically for what the player will play, not in the quaility of the output.

Screen shot of Bytecopy showing presets for “quaility of the output” for various players, incl. WD players.

When it does the endless spinning arrow can you go back into the menu and resume?

It’s just I had a issue when I upgraded my NAS recently which introduced a stalling MKV issue.

If any WD green drives are being used as a source you’re in trouble.

The heads autopark every 8 seconds on some variants. The burst nature of filling cache with a rapid network causes them to park (a greater chance of them going ‘idle’, so a fast network is actually worse).

I used an app call wdidle3.exe to disable the idle 3 timers on my green NAS drives.

Now they don’t autopark (the NAS alone now controls this) my stalling issue is no more.

wdidle3.exe and SMART LCC are good google searches.

Wow!

That is some serious computer lingo going on…

When the spinning arrow is going round, I still have reomote control access over the system.  I can stop, pause, go back to home, etc.

As per my drives… Not sure I have 2 raptors running in raid 1 for programs, and 1 WD running as a slave and that’s all I know. about that…

Thanks

Your pic will not show up until it’s approved by a moderator.

But even with out your pic, I know what you are refering to.  And as I said, you DON’T adjust the quailty by what player you have.  I have several WD players and a Seagate FAT+, all my mkvs play the same on both.  Unless you can adjust the Constant Quality (RF) or the Bitrate, adjust the reference frames, anamorphic type, b-frames, deblocking, lookahead, etc. then you are not adjusting the quailty of the out put for the display size the you are going to play your media.

It doesn’t matter whether you play a mkv on a WDTV Live, Popcorn Hour, Seagate FAT+/GoFlexTV, or any other player, you don’t need specific presets for separate players.  All most all players (if they can handle the container/codec) are going to play the same file at the same quailty.

@Duckmanfoo,

If the file that you posted the media info for will play locally but not over the network, then your problem is most likely with your network settings or equipment.  I have files that are much higher bitrate than that and they play fine.

What type of router do you have?

Sagemcom  F@st    2864

It is a Bell Canada rental deal.

Lots of settings and opening a port was easy, not sure what I may need to modfy if anything??

Thanks

Well, you are SOL.

I can’t even find any info on your Sagecom.  Bell Cananda doesn’t  show anyting for any Sagecom routers, and the Sagecom site only lists the 2964, couldn’t even find a manual for that.  So I can’t even tell what your router is cabable of, it could be 802.11n router, but only capable of 50Mbps, who knows.

My suggestion is, get a new wireless router, preferably one with some documentation.:smileyvery-happy:

And preferable one that’s at least 802.11n, 300 or 450Mbps.

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/network/routers/

I actually have one of these:

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=950

And know it works.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r26672440-sagemcom-f-st-2864-internal-pics-info

http://support.bell.ca/_web/internet/guides/ConnectionHub_ReferenceGuide_En.pdf

or

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,27196391?hilite=2864+manual

Not sure if you can open this?  I could, and I downloaded the file onto my computer.  Is there another way to upload it?

It is a 24 page pdf on the modem/router…

Thanks again for your efforts…

I can give some screen shots if that helps?

That manual may be pretty weak…

Or,
you can ask about some settings as there are many options available to tweak the modem…

Thanks,

Dg

Yeah, glad to see there’s some documentation.:smileyvery-happy:  I gave up looking after about 30 min.

I’ll get back to you once I look over it, but from what I can tell there’s still nothing that states what the max. wireless speed is for your router (Connection HUB).

One other question though, is your PC connected wireless too?

Also, does the router have a usb connection? (shows usb connected devices on the interface)

Computer is hard wired.

There is a USB port on the rear of the modem/router.

Also, there is a USB storage device connection tab in the settings of the router.

Thanks

Ok, first thing you can try is, following Page 19 of your manual.

Set you Interface type to N only (it may say 802.11n only)

Set Channel to 11

See if that improves anything.

Just did and will report back after some watching some various movies etc…

Do you alwasy connect using the NETWORK SHARE vs MEDIA SHARE?

Dg

Whoud just running in N kill by wifi in my home?

I cannot seem to connect the the wifi with my andriod phone now…

I had to go back to B G N auto setting.  N only wouldn’t connect WDTV or my phone…

Dg

Switching to Nonly should not kill your signal, at least not with the SMP.

If it did then there maybe something wrong with your routers N mode.

I have a Android Tablet, phone and the SMP all connected to my router set in N only mode and have no issues.  As a matter of fact, I have several routers, all set to N only and I have no troubles connecting any of my devices to any of those routers.

Any device that you have that is b/g/n should still be able to connect to your router when it’s in N only.

Also, did you switch to both N only and Channel 11?

Channel 11 should be the highest frequency, but could have caused the issue with not being able to connect.

You can try just N only and keeping your Channel set to Auto to see if that makes a difference.

Ok…

I will swtich and test…

I did N and 11.  No connection for WD or phone

I did BGN and 11.  Connection for WD and phone.

I notice 3 bars of signal stregth on the WD wireless meter…

I will test N and auto and get back…

Thanks

@Duckmanfoo

Try using inSSIDer for some assist to “see” yours and other wifi signals near you.  Select a channel to transmit on that is less used. 1, 6 and 11 are best choices.   Some routers have problems working on all channels.  Program is free in PC, Mac and Android versions from www.metageek.com and program notes give insights for best tweaking.
