Looks like you are gonna have to Re-Encode it in a HD Standard Resolution.

(Full 1080P HD Resolution is 1920x1080 :  HD 720P Resolution is 1280x720)

do you no of a good software that i can use to fix it…?

I used HandBrake and i got it to play after changing the picture settings BUT it will not allow me to go any bigger then 1920x800 which looks terrible on my TV. Is there another way to get it up to 1920x1080…?

Not sure if i should have said this earlier but this is a 3D film…

1920x800 should not look terrible at all.   It’s full resolution with letterboxing.

Well for some reason it does. The 1920x800 is only about 1/3 of my screen (60" plasma). Is there away to increase the height in Handbrake or another software that can do it, because handbrak will only aloow me to adjust the width…??

Did you encode the video yourself?   What are your “Picture” settings in Handbrake?

It sounds as though pillars were added to the original mkv (very large pillars).  That’s why it’s only shows up as 1/3 the size on you TV.

Try this if you are trying to reencode the original mkv.  Set the width/height to 1422 X 800 (if you set it at 1920x1080 you are upscaling it and you aren’t going to get any better of a picture), then under Cropping, select Custom and set the left and right sides to “1034”.

Then use Preview instead of encoding the whole video.  This will generate a small clip that you can use to see if you need ot make any adjustments.

It almost sounds like this is actually a “3D” Movie file ?

Noticed some more clues…

STREAM SiZE…: 16.6 GB
ViDEO CODEC…: x264, crf, L4.1
FRAMERATE…: 23.976 fps
BiTRATE…: 20800 Kbps
RESOLUTiON…: 3840x800
AUDiO…: English DTS 5.1 @ 1510 Kbps
SUBTiTLES…: Eng(SDH), Gre, Fre, Spa, Por, Ind 3D & 2D (.srt)
CHAPTERS…: Yes / Unnamed

3840 divided by 2 = 1920

Ind 3D & 2D (.srt)

These Clues indicate you have a “SIDE by SIDE” 3D Movie that was Encoded Incorrectly.

The Correct Video Resolution for your Video File should be 1920 x 800 (Which is a Letterboxed 3D Movie)

Yes it will look stretched “Vertically” on a 2D TV,  but… When Viewed on a 3DTV and Wearing 3D Shutter Glasses the 2 “SIDE by SIDE” images will merge and create the 3D Effect and will be Proper Aspect Ratio.

An Example of a “SIDE by SIDE” 3D Movie (When Viewed WITHOUT 3D Glasses)
