MKV Audio Problems which MKVTOOLNIX

Hi,

sometimes i’ve got problem with the audio of a mkv container when playing the file with my WD TV LIVE. I read I can solve the problem with an older version of the prog mkvtoolnix , I just need to remux the file. I donloaded the prog in an older version (4.0.0.) load the file into the prog and click on start muxing. But it doesn’t work. Can someone help? Do I need an older version? What is wrong? Audio is still not working for some files.

Thanks for your help!

You can only solve the problem if the file has ‘header compression’ which was added to MKVmerge in version 4.1

If using version 4.0.0 does not help then your problem is nothing to do with this addition.

This is still muxed with mkvmerge version v4.1.0 which causes problems with sound on the WDTV

Add this file to version 4.0.0 and remux.

Version 4.0.0 here

http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/win32/mkvtoolnix-unicode-4.0.0-setup.exe

Hi,

yes, thanks. I already tried that. Here is a screen of the prog version 4.0.0. for mac:

http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/1986/mkvtoolnix.jpg

I just put in the file and click on start muxing. After that I tried again using this file with WDTV but it didn’t work. What is wrong in my process? :frowning:

I assume that you are playing the remuxed  - movie_ep_1080p(1).mkv and not the orginal - movie_ep1080.mkv

It does not alter the original file it makes a new one with the (1) added.

Post the mediainfo of the remuxed file -  'movie_ep_1080(1).mkv

I tried exactly this file with the WDTV but it didnt work.

How are you playing the audio?

If you are selecting “Digital” in the audio/video options of the Live you will need a receiver that can decode DTS (and if it plugs straight into your HDTV it most likely cannot do this).  If you have “Stereo” selected there it *should* be decoding that audio properly.

When you play the file at first it will come up with the audio codec properties – what does it say on your screen when it starts?

Hi,

thanks for your answer. I tried to play the file movie_ep_1080p (1).mkv again with my WDTV but it didnt work. I selected stereo in the option (is already standard) and when the file starts “dts/german” is displayed on the screen but no sound :frowning:

Do you have another idea?

Then you’ll probably need to convert that audio track – there’s something about it that isn’t right.  I assume you can play this file on your PC, right?  And you hear sound there?

If you’re comfortable with command line interface you could use ffmpeg to convert it (I’d convert it to AAC).

Hi,

thanks for your answer. I will have a look. But for future files: What wouldn’t work with WDTV? Is that only the newer version of the mkvtoolnix where audio is not working or also for muxing with mkvmerge v3.1.0? Like in this file:

Thanks for your answer

The problem with MKVmerge is only with the latest versions. (since v4.1.0)
